Mission Statement

The mission of the Greater Charleston Higher Education Council is to create and sustain a higher education alliance that will educate the public locally, nationally and internationally about the strength of higher education in the Charleston area and to leverage higher education as a major resource in assisting with marketing and research activities that will promote economic development.

University of Charleston

UC is a private university of 1,300 students located in Charleston, WV along the Kanawha River. The University offers 20 associate and bachelor degrees and graduate degrees in Pharmacy and Business. UC is ranked as the # 1 University in the United States in How Much Students Learn (Collegiate Learning Assessment 2007).

WVSCTC located in Institute, WV, is a comprehensive community and technical college that provides a broad spectrum of associate degrees, certificates, employee training and high demand programs including Power Plant Technology, Nuclear Medicine and Nursing.

WVSU is a historically black university, which has evolved into a fully accessible, racially diverse, and multi-generational institution offering baccalaureate and graduate degrees. The suburban University is located in Institute, West Virginia, eight miles from downtown Charleston.

WVU Health Sciences Center in Charleston, WV is the nation's oldest regional medical education campus, providing premier professional education for health care professionals. The campus houses the schools of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry, as well as the WVU School of Social Work and the CAMC School of Nurse Anesthesia.

WVU Tech, a division of WVU, offers a variety of baccalaureate degree programs in business, computers, engineering, healthcare, science, printing, and technology as well as a masters degree in Control Systems Engineering. WVU Tech, located in Montgomery, WV, provides academic centers in Beckley and Charleston.

The CTC at WVU Tech, located in Montgomery, WV, offers a variety of two-year degrees in technical fields including engineering technology, printing technology, dental hygiene, computer technology, business/office technology, and allied health. The CTC at WVU Tech provides academic centers in Beckley and Charleston.

MUGC, located in South Charleston, WV, is part of Marshall University and offers graduate programs in areas such as education; business; and other state-of the-art fields.

College Summit is a comprehensive college access solution working throughout WV and across America. Through partnerships with local high schools and colleges, a post-secondary planning curriculum and life-changing workshops, College Summit ensures that every student who can make it in college makes it to college.
